BRUCE SHIRDON SAUNDERS, SR., 80, of Hagerstown, Maryland, went to be with his Lord on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center. Born February 7, 1933, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late John J. and Nellie Pompell Saunders. He is preceded in death by his wife, R. JoAnn Beckley Saunders in December 27, 2012. He was a 1951 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He served in the U. S. Army. Bruce retired from Danzer Metal Works after forty-three years of service. He was previously employed with Fairchild Aircraft, Harold Ebersole's Plumbing and Hagerstown Metal Fabricators. He was a lifelong member of Salem Reformed Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #202 Williamsport, Marlowe Ruritan Club, and a lifetime member of the Western Maryland Sportsman Club. Bruce loved to work with woodwork. He is survived by a son, Bruce S. Saunders, Jr. and wife, Donna of Boonsboro, MD; one sister, Shirley Getridge of Clear Spring, MD; one brother, Ronald Saunders, three grandchildren, Derek, Todd and wife, Jill and Heather and husband, Tim and five great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Slayman and two brothers, Ralph and John Saunders. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Salem Reformed Church. The Rev. Steve Wagoner will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD and one hour before the service at the church.
