Brenda Rhinaman, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 22, 2024, in her hometown of Hagerstown, MD. Born on April 5, 1953, to the late Sarah (Sally) Farris and Gerald (Jack) Gifft, Brenda's life was a testament to enduring warmth and compassion, leaving a legacy as vibrant as her favorite color, red.
A proud graduate of South Hagerstown High School in 1971 and the Award Beauty School for cosmetology, Brenda wielded her gifts to bring beauty into the lives she touched. Her career at Sam's Club, spanning over 27 years, was marked by dedication and the formation of lasting friendships she cherished deeply.
Survived by her loving daughter Sarah Cline, and her husband, Leo Jr. (June) of Clear Spring, MD, Brenda's most cherished role was that of "mom-mom" to her grandsons, Lance (Charlie) and Weslee (Animal). Her love for them was boundless, always finding ways to include them in her passions and daily life. She shared 23 years with her partner Merle Keefer (Ed).
Predeceased by her son Timothy Michael, her roots run deep, also leaving behind the fond remembrance of her mother, father, beloved Pappy Adam Gifft, and the father of her children, Clyde Rhinaman, Jr.
Brenda's zest for life shone through in her hobbies and interests. From adorning her front porch for each holiday to delicately tending her flower beds, she found fulfillment in creating joy and beauty in her world. Known for her artistic talent, Brenda could conjure any image from memory onto paper with ease and grace. Her love for literature was profound, harboring an extreme fondness for tales spun by Stephen King. Days spent basking in the sunlight with the radio as her companion, or teaching her grandsons to bike, were treasured. Passing on her wisdom and joy, Brenda was ever-present in the experiences that shaped her family—from parades to concerts, to simple moments in parks, sharing her love for the companionship of her cherished pets. Together with her long-time boyfriend, Ed, she enjoyed the tranquility of fishing at local waters, imparting to her grandsons the same appreciation for serenity and nature. Brenda's deep connection to her Native American heritage was a source of pride and exploration. Her hands nurtured not just plants but young minds, as she spent many years caring for children in a daycare setting to be close to her family. Her kindness and welcoming spirit extended to her work colleagues, whom she regarded as a second family.
Reflecting on Brenda's life, one is reminded of Maya Angelou's profound words: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." From graduations to life lessons, she was the wind beneath their wings, the "master Jedi" guiding them through life with her wisdom and grace. Her "Cena," son-in-law Leo, held a special place in her heart as she would jokingly say "you're my favorite son in law" which would spark a laugh because he was the only one, deserving the same maternal affection she had for her own son.
Brenda Rhinaman's spirit, an eternal flame of compassion and kindness, endures in the memories of those she illuminated. Hardly confined by words, her essence will continue to resonate with the vibrancy of a life lived with boundless love. Brenda was indeed one in a million, with a spirit that will forever dance in the hearts she has touched.
