Blaine Milton Snyder, Sr., 89, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
He was born March 3, 1933, in Hagerstown, MD to the late Lester Emanuel and Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Snyder.
Blaine was married on March 18, 1967, to Sarah Marie Katherine (Barnes) Snyder. He retired from A.G. Crunkleton in Greencastle, PA, working in various roles, including purchasing agent and electrical engineer. He serviced in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an active lifetime member of Hagerstown Presbyterian church and was a longstanding member of the Masonic Temple. He was active in the First Hose Fire Company in Hagerstown, MD as a volunteer for 70 years, beginning December 1, 1952. He has also been actively involved in local, county, and state firefighter's associations and served locally as assistant chief, lieutenant, and captain. He was involved in establishing the Hagerstown Round House Museum and the Hagerstown Firefighting Museum.
Many of his volunteer accomplishments included involvement in establishing the Washington County Central Communications System, Explorer Post 321 of the Hagerstown Fire Department of the Volunteer Firefighters Association, and chaired the Washington County Central Alarm Advisory Board, among other awards and service recognitions.
Blaine is survived by his wife, Sarah Snyder; his children, Robin Osik (Stephen) and Jay- Blaine Snyder, Jr. (Sonnie); grandchildren, Sarah Myers (fiancé John Keith), Zachary Snyder (Kathryn), Kaitlyn Morrow (Landon), and Colby Snyder (fiancé Cierra Burger); and six great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD, on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.
The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 10am with the internment following the service at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doey's House, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
