Obituary

Beverly W. Maynard, known affectionately as Bev by her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, in Hagerstown, MD, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 4, 1933, in Altoona, PA, Bev was a beacon of light and joy throughout her 91 years of life. Bev was the cherished daughter of Cyril Wilson and Elizabeth Fritz, both of whom predeceased her, as did her beloved sister, Jeanne Louise Earnhardt. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Gerrard Maynard, who shared many happy years by her side. Bev's love and memories will be forever held by her first husband, Dr. Ronald Peterson.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Wilson, and her loving children: Ronald Gregory Peterson Jr., Barbara Jean Dawson, and Donna Lynn Crawford. Bev's legacy continues through her seven grandchildren, Jenna-Lynn McNeill, Brian James Dawson, Sara Brooke Dawson, Natalie Denise Peterson, Christina Jane Atanackovic, Cameron Thomas Crawford, and Lindsay Ann Marine, and seven great-grandchildren, Michael James Angel Davis, Gabriel Brian Angel Davis, Kamal Kairi McNeill, Kylah-Jo McNeill, Khloe Jade McNeill, Wyatt James Crawford, and Magnolia Caroline Marine, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Bev's intellectual curiosity led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Bacteriology at Penn State University, where she not only honed her scientific mind but also cultivated lifelong friendships. After her studies, Bev embraced the role of homemaker with grace and dedication, creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. Music was one of Bev's passions, and as a talented classical pianist, she often filled her home and church with the melodies of her favorite composers. Her commitment to service was evident through her involvement as a Girl Scout leader, where she mentored young girls with patience and enthusiasm. She was an avid tennis player but also shared her love for literature as a reading tutor, helping children discover the joys of reading.

Bev's Christian faith was an important aspect of her life, and she served as a Sunday school teacher, imparting wisdom and kindness to the children in her church community. Her hands were rarely still, as she expressed her creativity through the intricate patterns of her quilts, each stitch a testament to her patience and skill. Those who knew Bev will remember her for her loving nature, her intelligent mind, and her edgy sense of humor that could light up a room.

Bev's family will hold a church ceremony followed by a private interment to honor her memory and celebrate her life. Her spirit, her laughter, and her wisdom will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

The church service will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Hagerstown First Church of God, 1015 Rose Hill Avenue, Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00am – 12:00pm.
