Betty L. Ward, 93, of Funkstown, MD, passed away at Williamsport Retirement Village on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

Born March 20, 1930 in Pennington Gap, VA, she was the daughter of the late Worley A. and Ora (Garber) Moore.

First and foremost, Betty loved and was devoted to her family. She also loved playing Bingo, was an avid reader, and enjoyed watching sports on TV.

She was a long-time member of the Church of the Holy Trinity of Hagerstown.

She is survived by her children, Sherry Gilbert, James Ward, Jr. (wife, Debra), and Gregory Ward; seven grandchildren, Amanda Sow, Zachary Gilbert (wife, Sarah), Adam Ward, Brooke Whitson (husband, Brooks), Ashleigh O'Connell (husband, Jesse), Nathaniel and Wren Ward; 11 great grandchildren; three sisters, Margie Williams, Mary Etta Moore, and Carol Willis (husband, Dave); one brother, Wayne Moore (wife, Pat); two sisters-in-law, Agnes Moore and Virginia Moore; one brother-in-law, Cecil Garrett; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ward, Sr. in 2005; five sisters, Nettie Lee Moore, Billie Marie Moore, Alice Barker, June McFarland, Lorene Garrett; and two brothers, J.C. Moore and Jerry Moore.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 670, Funkstown, MD 21734; or to a charity of one's choice.
