Betty Jane (Griffith) Thomas, 83, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, peacefully at her home in Hagerstown.

Born June 22, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Donald Griffith Sr. and Esther (Clevenger) Long.

Betty was a 1960 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

Betty was employed at the former First National Bank (Nicodemus Branch) in Hagerstown for 34 years before she retired. She then went to work for Olympia Candy Kitchen part-time.

Betty loved her children and was always involved in everything. Whether it be gathering all the local kids and piling in the car to go to American Little League for a baseball game or to go on an adventure to watch her kids participate in a parade or competition as part of the Golden Majorettes, Betty loved every minute of it.

She enjoyed horse racing, the Denver Broncos, and most of all, watching her beloved Baltimore Orioles, and spending time with her grand dog, Angela.

Betty is survived by two children; son, Gary E. Thomas, Jr., and wife, Debbie, of Fairplay, and daughter, Tammie S. Thomas, of Hagerstown, and grand dog, Angela; two granddaughters, Courtney Jeter, of Gilbert, AZ and Katie Thomas, of Goodyear, AZ; five great grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine McSherry and her husband, Dave, Sr.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Donald W. Griffith Jr. and her former husband, Gary (Tippy) E. Thomas Sr.

The family will receive family and friends from 1-2pm on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Burial will follow at 2:30 pm at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown with Mr. Charles (Chick) Myers officiating.
