Betty Jane Sherrard, 86, of Lakeland, FL, passed away, Thursday, October 20, 2022, in Wesley Chapel, FL.

Born December 12, 1935, in Washington County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Franklin and Eva Olena (Myers) Higgins.

Betty was a 1953 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport, MD. She was employed as a nurse for 22 ½ years with Coffman Nursing Home, retiring in February 2004. She was previously employed for 26 years at Williamsport Nursing Home. In 1991, Betty was named Washington County Nurse of the Year.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Neil S. Prok in 1971; her second husband, Ray Vaugh Sherrard, Jr. in 2019; two step-daughters, Sussie LaVaughn Berger and Kay McGowan; and one sister, Eva Ausherman.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Holly Ann Shapiro and husband, Marc; one step-daughter, Carolina Robin Concepcion, and husband, Mark; five grandchildren, Zachary and Rachel Shapiro, Keisha Parker, Shaughn Dumire, and Donald Ivey, Jr. "DJ"; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Rev. Allan Reed will officiate.

The family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
