Betty Lou Pruy, 77, of Funkstown, MD, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018. Betty was born on June 23, 1940 to the late Adolph Pruy and Mary Pittsinger Carr Pruy. She was a sister to William Pruy, Mary Agnes Pruy Gee, Lena May Pruy, James Pruy, Lena May Carr, and Martha Jane Carr. Betty resided in care with the ARC of Washington County where she was often active. She attended Virginia Avenue Baptist Church in the past and sometimes visited Lifehouse Church, she enjoyed going to church weekly. She also competed in the Special Olympics several times in the 1980's. Over the years, Betty worked at places like the Washington Square Community Church Program, Crossroads Activity Center, West Franklin Street Center, and Daybreak Day Gab at the ARC. Her work allowed her to earn money to spend on the things she enjoyed. Betty loved to bowl, watch movies (Dirty Dancing was one of her favorites), attend parties, dances, picnics, dine out, go on train rides, attend the Christmas shows and holiday parties, and even travel to places like: Florida, the Bahamas, Disney on Ice, the Pocono Mountains, Hershey Park, Atlantic City, Strasburg, VA, Bedford Springs Spa and Resort, and many more. Most of all, Betty enjoyed helping at home, she enjoyed folding towels and laundry, vacuuming, cooking, cleaning, and contributing to the house. She was always known for her sweet personality, her helpfulness, and her special friends she kept close to her, like her stuffed animal dog James. Her warm heart and kind spirit will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to spend time with Betty. Family and friends are welcomed for a memorial service on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 11:00am at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown.
