Obituary

BETTY LEE STINE MCCUBBIN, 86, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Williamsport Retirement Village in Williamsport, MD. Born December 2, 1928, in Funkstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lee Edward Stine and Lois Irene Talbert Swink. Betty graduated from Hagerstown High School Class of 1947 and Washington County Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1950. In addition to being a mother, housewife and home manager she worked as a registered nurse for the Washington County Hospital and did private duty nursing. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Mary Martha Circle. She was a member of Ladies of the Elks Lodge378 and Associates, Breast Cancer Awareness/Washington C. (BCA/WC), Washington County Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association and Maryland Historical Society. Betty is survived by her husband whom she married on November 30, 1952, Thomas Livingston McCubbin; children, Thomas L. McCubbin, II and Sharlene McCubbin of Mt. Airy, MD and Mary C. Kerns of Hagerstown, MD and friend, Mike Butler of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren, Megan McCubbin Chambers and husband, Joel, Jessica, McCubbin, Katie Kerns Fierros and husband, Steve, Robert Kerns and Jenny Kerns; great grandchild, Jaden Fierros; brothers, Lee E. Stine, Jr. of Shepherdstown, WV and Larry W. Stine of Wilmington, NC and former son-in-law, Les Kerns. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her step-mother, Agnita M. Schreiber and step-father, Harry C. Swink. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
