Betty Jean Drake, 81, of Hagerstown, MD, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was born on January 28, 1938, in Valdese, N.C., to the late George and Kathleen Bright Christopher of Inman, S.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Craig N. Drake, her sister Jenelle Christopher, her brother Felston Christopher, and grandson Justin Jones. She is survived by her daughters Roxanne Greenleaf, Tammy Meaney (Kevin) and Laura Edwards (Chris), her son Scott Drake, her grandchildren Tiffany Jones, Joshua Jones (Nicole), Linsdey McCarter (Todd), Heather Harkins (Stevie), Brandon Drake, Christian Edwards, Grace Meaney, and Aaron Edwards, her great-grandchildren Jeremiah Owings, Lance Jones, Haley Jones, Riley McCarter, Milo Harkins, Penelope Harkins, Daphne Harkins, and Carrie Harkins, her brothers Ben Christopher (Lucy), James Christopher (Anne), and her sister Chris Clarke (Joe). She graduated from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, N.C. She was retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs. She was a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church in Hagerstown, MD, for many years. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed watching the birds in her back yard, particularly humming birds. Family and friends are welcomed for a visitation on Sunday, August 25, 2019 from 6-8 p.m., at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
