Obituary

Bettie L Alexander, 69, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Saturday December 29th after a brief illness with cancer. Born April 25, 1943 in Hagerstown, MD she was the daughter of Ethel "Ginny" Klick and the late John E Potter. She was a 1961 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, and received her Day Care License from Hagerstown Community College. She was a former Girl Scout Leader in the Funkstown school area for many years and a current member of the McClellan Gun Club. She was formerly employed and had retired from Martins Food and during her retirement had briefly worked in the day care field, most recently she helped in the kitchen of the McClellan Gun Club where she will be remembered for her passion of preparing home cooked meals. She enjoyed many crafts such as needle point, crocheting, woodworking and especially enjoyed the time she spent fishing, crabbing and boating with her husband, family and friends at her second home on the bay in Chincoteague , VA. She was a loving mother and "Nanny" and helped to raise her first few grandchildren from birth so that they could be with family while their parents returned to work during the important first few years of life. She will be remembered for her love of preparing and sharing holiday meals with family and friends and preparing home cooked dishes for those in times of comfort. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Pierce Alexander, Jr., daughter, Patricia "Patti" Gouff and her companion Terry Wigfield, son James "Butch" Alexander, daughter Lisa Sword and husband Eric, daughter Jahna DeHaven and husband Pete, a "special son" Jeff Rhone and 7 grandchildren, Nathan Gouff, Cody Hartle, Amanda Nichols, Linsey Hartle, Alex Sword, Logan DeHavan and Bradley Sword, and one great grandson, Bentley Mullen. Per her wishes, Bettie was cremated and will enter eternal rest in her husband's arms at his passing. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday January 3rd at 2pm at the Good Shepherd Ministries, 19763 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown, Maryland. Pastor Bradford Reaves will conduct the service. The family requests the omission of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Ministries church in her name.
