Obituary

Born on October 11, 1955, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to her parents Jack Anthony Chambers and Nancy Lou Grove Chambers, Barbara shaped a life centered on family, home, and the pleasures that made ordinary days shine a little brighter. The rhythm of her days was often filled with the things she loved most: dogs, traveling, cooking & baking, and music. She cultivated beautiful gardens, and in much the same way, she nurtured lasting connections wherever life carried her.

Barbara is remembered by her husband, David Leaman; her son, Christopher Heiland and his wife Alexis; her daughter, Jessica Waldinger and her partner Josh; and her beloved grandchildren, Victoria, Logan and Carmen, along with her cherished four-legged granddogs Georgie and Opal, her own sweet Mia, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers, Scott Chambers and his wife Judy, Craig Chambers and his wife Ann; and her sister, Nancy Chambers. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Heiland, who held a special and lasting place in her heart, and by her sister, Jeri Ann Jones.

Adventure called to Barbara in many forms, and she met it with an open heart. She enjoyed baseball spring training, tennis matches, and MotoGP races, finding delight in the energy and excitement of the moment. Yet among all the teams and athletes she followed, her favorite ones to cheer for were her grandchildren. She enthusiastically supported them at their various sporting events, lending her presence and encouragement from the sidelines.

Barbara will be remembered for the joy she found in travel and shared experiences, the care she gave to the spaces around her, and the enthusiasm she brought to the people and pursuits she loved. In the memories she leaves behind, there will remain the music, the gardens, the gathered family, and the many small beauties she helped flourish along the way. Her song may have ended, but her melody lives on.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared once arrangements have been made.
