REV. ARVEL JOEL BARRETT, 94, of 6385 Burning Tree Terrace, Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2013 at Chambersburg Hospital, after a brief illness. He had previously resided in Hagerstown for over fifty-three years. Born June 26, 1918, in Hydro, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Alford and Elizabeth Barrett. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Elizabeth Barrett, sister, Hazel Darrow, brothers, Austin and Calvin Barrett from California. He is survived by wife, Doris Hallquist Barrett, son Warren Barrett, and wife Pam, of Hagerstown, and grandsons, Chad of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Tyler of Milton, Florida. He is also survived by a brother, Herbert Barrett of Riverside, California, and many nieces and nephews. Rev. Barrett was a faithful pastor for over sixty-eight years in the Assemblies of God, pastoring in Missouri, Virginia, and Maryland. This included Bethel Assembly of God, Hagerstown from 1957-1978. He served as a district officer with the Potomac District, for twenty-eight years. He graduated from Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri, in 1941. He was ordained by the General Council of the Assemblies of God in 1944. He had a heart for people and wanted all to know Christ. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, and watching the Baltimore Orioles. Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10:30 a. m. at Lifehouse Bethel, 515 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. D. Wendel Cover and the Rev. Kenneth Burtram will officiate. The family will receive friends in Barrett Hall on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 6 to 8 p. m. at Lifehouse Bethel, 515 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to U. S. Missions, Lifehouse Bethel, 515 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740, or New Franklin Assembly of God, 2355 New Franklin Road, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania 17201.
