Anthony "Sonny" Wayne Carnes, 68, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was born on September 16, 1952 to the late Robert Lee Carnes and Ethel Radigan Carnes. Sonny attended James Wood High School in Winchester, VA. He worked for many years for Fleetwood Travel Trailers and later for Hagerstown Floors until he retired. Sonny attended St. Mary's Catholic Church as well as Broadfording Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was an avid Washington Redskins and NASCAR fan. Most of all, Sonny will be remembered as a loving brother and father who was soft spoken, with a gentle and kind heart, and always willing to do all he could for those around him. He was described by his son, Aaron, as having "A grandmother's heart". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Carnes. Sonny is survived by his sons, Robert W. Carnes and Aaron W. Carnes, his granddaughter, Averi LaRue, his siblings, William L. Carnes, Mary Besecker, and Barbara Shockey, two nieces, two nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Family and friends are welcomed for a service on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11:00am at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. Pastor Bill Divelbiss will officiate. Masks/face coverings are required in the building. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
