Obituary

Anthony "Tank" Jerome Naylor, Jr., 52, of Hagerstown, MD, formally of Frederick, MD, passed away on December 28, 2022 at Meritus Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Tank was born on May 20, 1970 in Frederick, Maryland to the late Anthony Jerome Naylor, Sr. and Betty Jean (Patterson) Naylor.

He was a 1988 graduate of Thomas Johnson High School, where he won a state championship title in basketball. He graduated from Fairmount State University where he played basketball as well. He also played for the Frederick Flyers, Babe Ruth All-star team, several different softball teams, Lifehouse, Screaming Eagles, Genesis, and a few others.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching his Dallas Cowboys and UNC Tar Heels. He was an avid Michael Jordan fan, watching old basketball games and buying the latest sneakers. He loved playing softball, coaching, being around his family, especially his grandchildren, and joking.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his fiancé, Karen Lawhorne; his four children, Kearia Naylor, Brittany Naylor, Evante Naylor, and Kayla Naylor; grandchildren, Janiyah, Jekhi, Maejor, Nova, Journee, and Nala; siblings, Kammi Gray, Koffi Naylor, Lamont Hall, Jasmine Naylor, and Jayda Naylor; nieces and nephews, Kavon Gray, Kanique Gray, and Karez Gray; aunts and uncles, Dyane Prather-Hill (Bobby), Karen Hammond, Shari King, Inje Naylor-Willis, Sylvia Naylor, James Naylor Sr (Emma), Wayne King, Rudy Jurricks (Debra), and Stefan Goines (Mary); great aunt Jesse, Patterson; his bonus children, Adrian "AJ" Norris, Talan Lawhorne, and Kennedi Lawhorne; and special cousins, Kevin Naylor, Donnell Foreman, Cory Naylor, Devin Naylor, Darrin Naylor, Barry Naylor, JT Naylor, Randy Naylor, Aj Naylor, Mark Hoy, Daryl "Moonman" Whiten, Dwayne Whiten, and Tramane Sampson. He's also survived by mentor Coach Tom Dickman and long-time friends, Darryl Cooke, Dale Hill, Winston Disney, Herb Davis, Nathan Millberry, Sr., Warren Doles, Frank Hoy, Blaine Young, Corey Hill, Frankie Washenitz, and the PA Hustlers.

In addition to his father, Tank was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Khloe; paternal grandparents, James Naylor, Sr. and Bernice Naylor; maternal grandparents, Preston "Ludie" Patterson, Beatrice King, and Carroll L. King; Great-Grandmother, Josephine "Mom" Bowie; Uncles, Preston "Butchie" Patterson, Ronald "Fats" Naylor, and Preston Hammond; Aunt Jody Naylor; long-time friend, Anthony "Dalton" Wedge; and a host of other friends and family that left before him.

A celebration of Tank's life will take place at 1pm on Saturday, January 7, 2022, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd , Hagerstown, MD 21740. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Celebration of Life.
