Obituary

Anthony C. Bell, Sr., 86, was called home peacefully on Saturday, December 6, 2025 while at Williamsport Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Harlem, NY on June 24, 1939, and is the son of the late Mabel Harvey Bell Boyd and the late Frank Adams, stepson to the late Gilford "Juma Oris" Bell, and the late James Boyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfathers, stepbrother, Don Boyd, Sr., sister Sylvia Bell, adopted sister Sharon Boyd Eaves, maternal grandparents John M. Harvey and Grace Taylor Clark Harvey, grandfather Roscoe Clark, Sr., and paternal grandparents Noah and A. Lettie Adams, uncle, Roscoe Clark, Jr., aunts Pearl Williams and Malinda Brown, and cousin, David Williams, Sr.

In his early childhood years, Anthony attended and sang in the choir of King's Apostle Holiness Church of God, later named Greater Campher Temple. Anthony attended North Street School and played on the Badgers basketball team. He was later integrated to North Hagerstown High School and was proud to be the first Black graduate to walk across the stage in the class of 1957.

Anthony was employed by Mack Truck, Inc. (Volvo) for 48 years. He was an excellent duckpin bowler who played in several leagues and received many accolades. He was also an avid runner and proudly completed the 50-mile John F. Kennedy marathon race. He was a member of Pride of Hagerstown, Elks Lodge #278, Hagerstown.

Anthony was married to Dorothy Bell for over 20 years.  He is survived by two children, Anthony Bell, Jr. (Delores) and Serena Bell, four grandchildren, Anthony Bell, III, (Kieisha), Danielle Gay (Darren), Dirren Bell (Takaila), and Randi Woodson (Anthony), and thirteen great-grandchildren, Darren, Jr., Dashaun, Nakasha, Trey, Jordan, Moriyah, Grace, Maleyah, Liam, Noah, Avery, Daniel, and Matteo, a sister, Maxine Troy, and an uncle Richard Clark; and two goddaughters, Sabrina and Regina Darden.

The viewing will be held on Friday, December 12, 6 to 8 p.m. at Greater Campher Temple. The funeral is private.
