Anna Ruth (Marshall) Mulligan, 83, of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Born May 4, 1937 in Laytonsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Arkie Mae (Buttry) Marshall and Jack Marshall. Anna spent her childhood and early adulthood in Montgomery County where she attended Gaithersburg High School and met her husband of 66 years, William Patrick Mulligan Sr. of Damascus. They were married on February 6, 1954 and went on to have and raise 5 children together. Anna dedicated her life to her family and spent her time providing for them cooking meals, cleaning, and doing laundry. You never went hungry when she was around. She always kept everyone fed with her fantastic meals. A few of her specialties included: chicken and dumplings, salmon cakes, potato cakes, turkey and all the fixings, roast beef, mashed potatoes, and green beans. She could take a can of green beans and make them taste like fresh out of the garden. Anna was a wonderful baker, black raspberry, and peach cobblers, her famous pound cake, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies and melt in your mouth sugar cookies. In Annas early adult years, she worked at Ben Franklins 5 and 10 cent store and Watkins & Johnson Company, both in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In June of 1960, the family moved to Anne Arundel County, Maryland where Anna would take her children to the beach just about every day in the summer. And this is where she started her career as a school bus driver. She loved driving a bus and loved to be with her students, where she formed many bonds. Anna loved to hear them say "Good Morning, Mrs. Mulligan" and would share stories about her students with affection. In June of 1972, the family moved back to Montgomery County. It took a while, but then the right opening came up (it was permanent and close to home) Anna began driving a school bus again and continued to do so for 19 more years. From 1987 until her retirement in 1998, she was the proud driver of bus 971. In 1985 the family moved to their farmhouse in Washington County, Maryland. There they raised many animals over the years, including beloved horses, dogs, cats, and cattle. Anna loved Jesus and taught her family to do the same. She was always singing "Jesus Loves Me" and "This Little Light of Mine". She truly let her light shine and made sure everyone she loved knew she loved them, unconditionally. Nothing is quite like the love of a mother. She was an amazing and faithful daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, cousin, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Anna loved playing board games, card games, baseball, softball, and kickball, with her family. She had a passion for reading and loved country and blue grass music. Anna loved going to dances, especially at Glen Echo by the famous carousel. She enjoyed many years of camping with her family in Trap Pond, Delaware, bowling on a league and playing miniature golf. She also loved to watch Nascar races, football games and go to carnivals and fairs. Anna had many collections and her family loved to spoil her with whatever she was interested in, including tea pots, wind chimes, prisms, Precious Moments, angels, and lambs (from Grandmas little lamb). Anna was preceded in death by her parents Arkie and Jack Marshall, son Rodney Mulligan, sister Bonnie Baugher and infant sister Blanche Marshall. Grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in laws and friends. Anna is survived by her loving husband, William Patrick Mulligan Sr. of Hagerstown, Maryland. Her daughters, Trish Koontz (Eddie), Mandy Savage (Denny), and Nora Boden (Bobby), her son, William Mulligan Jr. (Karin), her granddaughters, Meghan Williams (Mike), Marlee Lambert (Matt), Katherine Vann (Trapper), and Elizabeth Bull (Andrew), her grandsons, Buster Richards (Courtney) and Bobby Boden, her great-grandchildren, Alston, Jillian, Ryder, Mylee, Willow, Lee, and Mattee, her sister, Lorine Buchanan, her brother, Jack Marshall (Vivian), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who she loved dearly. The funeral service and interment will be private.
