ALVIN J. PHELPS, 89, of Redwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Meritus Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 11, 1922 in New Britain Township, Bucks County, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Lily Weber Phelps. Al served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Service Group during World War II. He was a loving husband and proud father. He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth Phelps; two daughters, Barbara Powell and Rebecca Pauvert and husband, Marco; one son, John Phelps and wife, Teri; one step daughter, Denise Staller and husband, Ronald; two step sons, Jay Rudden and wife, Sherri and Michael Rudden and wife, Lilly; one brother Charles Phelps; sister-in-law, Patricia Cassidy, and eight grandchildren. Al is remembered for his good spirit and sense of humor as he loved to joke, laugh and smile. He is honored for his loving nature, creative mind, and artistry his compassion, his patience, his honesty, and his gentleness were an inspiration to all who knew him. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. Burial will be at the Convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. before the service.
