Obituary

Allen Eugene Schlotterbeck, 92, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Homewood of Williamsport, MD.

Born August 5, 1931 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Albert and Edith (Marker) Schlotterbeck.

Allen was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He met his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Yvonne (Barr) Schlotterbeck, at Starland Skating Rink. There's still a debate as to who flirted with whom first! They married in 1953.

Allen was a member of Christ Community Church in Williamsport, MD and a past member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, MD. While at Christ Lutheran Church, he served on the Usher Team, was a member of the Building Committee, and was an active Prayer Warrior of the Prayer Ministry. Allen was a member of The Izaak Walton League of America, Potomac Edison retired Forerunners, and served on the board of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. He was the MD State Archery Champion in 1968, and a charter member of Cedar Ridge Children's Home. He worked in the service department of Potomac Edison for more than 40 years as a First Class Lineman.

He was a great storyteller and often shared his stories with family and friends. He had numerous nieces and nephews but warmly invited others outside the family to call him, "Uncle Al." He especially enjoyed sharing his faith about the Lord. Allen loved to fix and repair a wide variety of appliances and household items and was the "go-to person" when someone needed parts or advice. He enjoyed taking bus trips with the Potomac Edison Forerunners and traveling with friends known as "The Six Pack" which included his wife, family, Max and Nancy Cummins, and friends, Warren and Shirley Shirey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Jr., Donald, Paul, and sisters, Martha Jane, and Dorothea (Dot).

Allen is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Kristi Frush, and husband, Tom; grandsons, T.J. and Daniel Frush; brother, Kenneth Schlotterbeck, and wife, Judith, of Florida; and sister, Patricia Hovermale, of Hagerstown; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 2-4pm Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
