Alfred Glenn Ward, of Smithsburg, MD and formerly Boonsboro, MD, entered into eternal life on February 25, 2024 at Julia Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 5, 1935 on a farm in Big Pool, MD, he was the son of Amy Ann (Drury) Ward and Leo Henry Ward. He was raised in the Keedysville, MD area. He graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1952. Alfred served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1961. Part of this time was spent in Germany where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired from Trivo Company, Inc. after 32 years as a machinist. He also worked at the M. P. Möller Pipe Organ Company for fourteen years, and for a few years at Mack Truck, Inc.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where he served as a chalicist, acolyte, and usher. He was also former Sunday School treasurer. Alfred played guitar and sang at the Thursday evening bluegrass jam session at the Woodmen of the World Lodge for fifteen years and was a member of the Tri-State Bluegrass Association.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Mary A. Ward whom he married in 1962, his son, David G. Ward of Reisterstown, MD, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by brothers John Ward, James Ward, Clyde Ward, Harry Ward and Earl Ward; sisters Minnie Ward, Mildred Ward, Sally Milburn, Blanche Violet, Julia Myers, Molly Marshall, and Hazel Myers.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 28 at 2pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27 from 6pm until 8pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
Alfred's family would like to thank Julia Manor and his nurses for the excellent, loving care and attention he received while living there.
