Obituary

ROGER ELWOOD (BOB) DAVIS, 79, of 441 Vermont Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at his home. Born June 20, 1929 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Roy E. and Zola F. Bitner Davis. He served in the U. S. Army. He retired from the Hagerstown Paint and Glass Company after twenty-nine and half years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Cavetown, Maryland. He was a member of the AMVETS Post No. 10, Williamsport Redmen No. 84, Elks Lodge No. 378, Mercersburg, V.F.W. No. 1641, Mercersburg Moose No. 1790, Eagles Club Inc., Waynesboro, PA, Eagles No. 694 of Hagerstown, MD, A.A.R.P., and The Happy Face Travel Club. He was a volunteer at the ARC of Washington County. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Pat) Patricia Kittell Davis; two daughters, Deborah K. Moats and husband, Gary and Marcia A. Wood and friend Randy Cooper all of Hagerstown, MD; three sisters, Freda Nunamaker and June Andrews both of Hagerstown, MD and Mary Jane Malott of Williamsport, MD; four brothers, Carl E. Davis of Dawsonville, GA, Leonard J. Davis, Daniel H. Davis and Roy E. Davis all of Hagerstown, MD; three grandchildren, Jennifer Moats, Kara Witmer and husband, Jonathan and Melissa South; two great grandchildren, Morgan Paige Witmer and Madison Nicole Witmer. He was preceded in death by one brother, Wilbur W. Davis. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ, 22514 Cavetown Church Rd., Cavetown, MD. The Rev. Carol D. Hallman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown, MD. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland 21742 or United Church of Christ, Post Office Box 100, Cavetown, Maryland 21720.
