Mrs. Naomi Macht, Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully at Washington County Hospital on January 9, 2008. Mrs. Macht has resided 40 years at 826 Rolling Road, 13 years at 1192 Luther Drive, and the last several years at 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, MD Mrs. Macht was born January 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Newman, Danville, VA. She was the widow of Dr. Stanley H. Macht, Hagerstown. She is survived by three sons, Harold Victor Macht, Hagerstown, Maury Arnold Macht, Sacramento, CA, and Jon David Macht, Marin County, CA. A son, Jay Newman Macht preceded her in death. Daughters-in-law include Barbara Eckstine Macht, Hagerstown; Patricia King Macht, Sacramento; and youngest sons girlfriend Penny Carman. Mrs. Macht had five grandchildren: David and Sarah Macht, Hagerstown; Daniel and Jenny Macht, Sacramento; and Jonathan Stanley Macht, Marin County. Mrs. Macht was also survived by her sister Ruth Newman Siegel, Brooklyn, New York; nephew Joel Siegel, PhD., Fresno, CA; and niece Amy Siegel, Halperin, New York City. Mrs. Macht was a 1941 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she received a B.S. degree in Chemistry. Mrs. Macht was among the first women accepted to the University of Virginia Medical School, but she chose marriage instead. Her lifelong interests included beautiful paintings, dance, music and the symphony. Mrs. Macht was a member of Congregation Bnai Abraham, and she was a lifelong member of Hadassah and the Bnai Abraham Sisterhood. She was also a member of the Womens Club, American Association of University Women, Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, and the doctors wives auxiliary to the Washington County Medical Society. Mrs. Macht was a member of Fountainhead Country Club, Beavercreek Country Club and Northwood Swim Club. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Family will receive friends Saturday 7:00-9:00pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. following a brief memorial service at 6:00pm. Rabbi Fred Raskind will officiate. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 3:00pm at the Greenhill Cemetery in Danville, Virginia. Donations in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Stanley H. Macht can be made in lieu of flowers to the Radiography scholarship funds at Hagerstown Community College, 11400 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
