Obituary

MARY CATHERINE MINER, 98, formerly of Coffman Avenue, Halfway, Maryland, died on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Autumn Assisted Living where she was a resident. Born May 2, 1912 in Chewsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles Alvey and Nellie Seigman Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Jack R. Miner on October 16, 1988. She was a charter member of Church of the Holy Trinity, and was Sunday School Superintendent for twenty-five plus years. She was a member and President of the Consistory, and President of the Women's Guild at the church. She was a member of Halfway Fire Company Auxiliary, the PTA at the Halfway school, and the Homewood Auxiliary for many years. She knitted for the Red Cross during World War II. She is survived by four daughters, Jane Miner, and Fran Alton, both of Halfway, Maryland, Maxine Bennett of Portland, Oregon, and Doris Young of Funkstown, Maryland; one son, Charles William Miner of Martinsburg, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Jackie Fouke, Donald Miner, and Greg Alton, all of Hagerstown, Steve Miner of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, and Mike Alton of North Carolina; twelve great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Williams of Mt. Airy, Maryland. She was preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers, one grandson, Chuck Miner, one great grandson, and a daughter in law Patsy Miner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Monday at Church of the Holy Trinity. Rev. Timothy Leighton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown on Sunday from 6 to 8 p. m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Church of the Holy Trinity, for the Christian education fund or the Choir, 17805 Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
