Janice Smith, age 69, died peacefully on July 19, 2016 at Julia Manor Healthcare Center in Hagerstown, MD after a long battle with several illnesses. Janice was born on January 24, 1947 in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rosalyn Smith. Janice attended Cardoza High School in Washington, DC and continued on to a career working for several agencies within the Federal and DC Government for over 20 years until her early retirement from the Department of Employment Services. During retirement Janice enjoyed spending her time with family and friends, especially her nine grandchildren. Janice looked forward to hearing her loved ones share exciting stories about the wonderful and positive experiences in their lives. She had a listening ear which allowed her to give comfort and unbiased advice to anyone in need. On this day, we celebrate the life and spiritual eternity of a beautiful spirit. One that could not be broken in the face of adversity and that continues to shine bright in all of our hearts. Janice is survived by her two children, Albert B. Smith, III (and wife, Shawn Smith) of Hagerstown, MD, and Danika E. Winston of Washington, DC; a sister, Camille Johnson of Washington, DC; a brother, Jerome Smith of Washington, DC; one aunt, Gin Shields; grandchildren, Wonjara Blagmon, Albert Smith IV, Alysha Smith, Christianne Smith, Wanjara Smith, Naomi Smith, Joshua Smith, Kaleb Smith, and David Smith; step grandchildren, Vernon Valentine (and wife, Sara Valentine) and Darian Brown; six great grandchildren; eight nieces; eight nephews; great nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Janice was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence Smith, Jr. and Daniel Smith; and one sister, Ida Smith.
