CATHERINE IRENE SHANK, 97, of Downsville, Maryland, passed Monday, April 29, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Marjorie Leatherman in Myersville, Maryland. Born November 27, 1915 in Downsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Daisy Palmer Nalley, and stepmother, Mable H. Nalley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Shank, Sr. in 1973. She was a member of Trinity Bible Church in Hagerstown and attended Valley Assembly of God. She was a devoted Christian, mother and homemaker. She was known for her baked goods at church bake sales. She loved to be outside tending to her many flower gardens and her garden. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as well as family vacations at the beach. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Leatherman, and husband, Clair Lee, of Myersville, Maryland, Mary Cosens, and husband, Mike, of Boonsboro, Maryland, and Faye Shank McCoy, and husband, Ronnie, of Smithsburg, Maryland; seven sons, Edward Shank, and wife, Janet, of Hagerstown, Maryland, Herbert Shank, and wife, Laura, James Shank, Orville Shank, Sr., and wife, Anna Sue, all of Hagerstown, Dale Shank of Williamsport, Maryland, Vincent Shank, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Allen Shank, and wife, Barb, of Boonsboro, Maryland.; as well as twenty-nine grandchildren, fifty-five great- grandchildren and eighteen great-great- grandchildren. Catherine is survived by three sisters, Gladys Short, and Mable "Sissy" Hornbaker, both of Williamsport, Maryland, and Rosalyn Suffecool of Hagerstown; two brothers, Ray Nalley of Hagerstown, and George Nalley of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Patsy Shank; two sons, William Shank, Sr. and Dennis Shank, Sr.; two sisters, Marjorie Zimmerman, and Alice Cunningham; three brothers, Walter Nalley, Clarence Nalley, and Robert "Bobby" Nalley; granddaughter, Debbie Shank, and grandson, Terry Shank. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a. m. Saturday at the Valley Assembly of God. The Rev. Betty D. Jones and Rev. Robert C. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in River View Cemetery in Williamsport, Maryland. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m., one hour prior to the service at the church.
