Anna Mary (McCauley) Short, 94, of Somerford House in Hagerstown, MD, passed away Monday, February 2, 2016. Born March 11, 1921 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Worthington W. and Virgie E (Snyder) McCauley. Anna was employed by Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation in Hagerstown, General Dynamics Corp. in Washington, D.C., and the Washington County Dept. of Social Services, where she retired in 1986. She later retired as a contractual employee of D.S.S. working until 1995 when she became sole caregiver for her husband following his stroke until his death in 2004. Anna was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Hagerstown for over 70 years where she was church pianist and helped organized a junior choir. She was active in a number of related church activities including Prime Timers Retirees Group. She was also a member of MCEA (MD Classified Employees Association) and AARP. Following her marriage in 1966 to the Rev. James F. Short, Sr., Anna assisted in his ministry at his pastorates at Roanoke, VA and Chestertown, MD. She is survived by a stepson, James F. Short, Jr of Atlantic Beach, FL; a stepdaughter, Rhoda J. Nash of Linthicum, MD; one granddaughter; three great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia C. McCauley; three brothers, Willis W. McCauley, John S. McCauley, and Charles A. McCauley; and one niece, Dorothy M. Weagley. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, February 5, 2016 at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD. The Rev. John Brantley will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
